Djibouti, November 14, 2024 – The city of Djibouti had the honor of welcoming today Mrs. Fatiha El Moudni, Mayor of Rabat, on an official visit, accompanied by a delegation from the Moroccan capital. This visit is part of a decentralized cooperation partnership that aims to consolidate the bonds of friendship and collaboration between Djibouti and Rabat. Mr. Said Daoud, Mayor of Djibouti, gave a warm welcome to the delegation, in the presence of his deputies, the presidents of the municipalities of Balbala and Rasdika, as well as several municipal elected officials and city hall executives, testifying to Djiboutian hospitality and the desire to strengthen fraternal ties between the two cities. The visit began with a solemn signing of the guestbook, symbolizing the friendship between the two capitals, and was followed by discussions with key players in the education and health sectors, particularly within the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Health. These meetings provided an opportunity to address various themes, such as academic exchanges, skills building, and socio-cultural development projects. One of the highlights of this partnership dates back to July 2022, when the two cities signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation, strengthening their mutual commitment. At the same time, a financing agreement was established within the framework of the International Decentralized Cooperation Support Fund (FACDI) for the urban development project of the commune of Balbala, a symbol of the desire of both parties to modernize and improve the living environment of residents. During her visit, Mrs. Fatiha El Moudni also met with the Prime Minister, HE Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed. This meeting served to reaffirm the cooperation ties between Djibouti and the Kingdom of Morocco, with a particular focus on urban development and sustainable infrastructure management. The discussions focused on themes of common interest, inspired by the Rabat governance model, and explored initiatives for sustainable urban development in Djibouti. Furthermore, the delegation also participated in a presentation of the Balbala urban planning project, highlighting the prospects for strategic partnerships, particularly to integrate new technologies into urban modernization. In conclusion, the Prime Minister hailed this meeting as a strong symbol of solidarity between Djibouti and Rabat and reaffirmed his commitment to work towards strengthening bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples. Also present was HE Mohamed Douhour Hersi, Ambassador of Djibouti to Morocco, as well as several local stakeholders, confirming the importance of this partnership for both nations.
