As part of a visit to China, Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed held talks with the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr Gong Zheng. The discussions focused on promoting partnership relations between the Republic of Djibouti and the city of Shanghai in the tourism sector, in particular with a view to increasing human exchanges and, more specifically, exchanges between young people, the driving forces of the nation, via partnerships in the fields of education and culture. Discussions on strengthening port cooperation were also at the heart of the meeting, in view of the performance index that places the port of Shanghai in first place in the world ranking of container ports. To this end, a China-Djibouti Economic Forum will be organised on 3 September, under the auspices of the President of the Republic, to present Djibouti's opportunities to an audience of 500 Chinese businessmen, with the participation of the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce. Djibouti's ambassador to China, H.E. Abdallah Abdillahi Miguil, who was present at the meeting, explained that he had invited Djibouti's mayor's office with a view to strengthening a decentralised partnership between the city of Shanghai and the city of Djibouti. Shanghai, the economic engine of China's growth, is an economic, cultural and industrial megalopolis that plays a major role in the world economy, accounting for more than 20% of the country's GDP.
