Statement - City Hall, Sunday, May 11, 2025 Leading a high-level delegation from Djibouti City, Mayor Saïd Daoud Mohamed has arrived in Riyadh to participate in the Arab-European Cities Dialogue Forum, which officially opened on May 11, 2025, in the Saudi capital. Urban Partnerships for a Better Future This first edition of the Arab-European Cities Dialogue Forum is organized by the Municipality of Riyadh, in collaboration with the Arab Institute for Urban Development, PLATFORMA (Union of European Cities and Regions), and the International Agency of Dutch Municipalities. The event is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at strengthening city-to-city cooperation, promoting urban diplomacy, and supporting sustainable and inclusive development. It also serves as an opportunity for the Mayor of Djibouti to share the city’s experience with Arab and European cities, particularly highlighting the vision of President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh regarding urban development policies. Flagship Initiatives: Djibouti Zero Waste & Green City During the forum, the Mayor will also present his key municipal program, "Djibouti Zero Waste," along with its major component, the "Green City" initiative, which aims to transform Djibouti City into a model of sustainability and environmental resilience. Riyadh: A Hub for Municipal Cooperation The selection of Riyadh as the host city reflects its pivotal role in regional and international municipal collaboration. The event gathers mayors and local officials from various cities, alongside international organizations, municipal unions, and financial backers, serving as a strategic meeting point for local decision-makers and development stakeholders. Key Topics of the Forum Participants will discuss critical urban issues, including: - Infrastructure and municipal services - Digital transition and smart cities - Sustainable financing and climate resilience - Multi-level cooperation and governance Interactive Sessions & Site Visits The forum will feature interactive discussions, roundtables, workshops, and an idea marketplace, along with site visits to landmark projects in Riyadh, particularly in public transport and ecological transition. These visits will provide insights into Riyadh’s urban evolution, rooted in its cultural and social identity. Strengthening Innovation & Cross-Border Partnerships The forum aims to enhance cities' capacity to innovate and collectively plan for the future, fostering cross-border partnerships to finance urban services.
