After Dire-Dawa, the Mayor seals decentralized cooperation with Jigjiga Djibouti, February 23, 2025 – Today, the City Hall of Djibouti hosted a high-level meeting between the municipal authorities of Djibouti and Jigjiga. The Mayor of Djibouti warmly welcomed a large delegation from the City of Jigjiga, in the Somali region of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, led by His Excellency Mr. Shafi Ahmed Mealin, Mayor of Jigjiga. The delegation consisted of prominent personalities, including His Excellencies Mr. Abdihakim SheikHassen Ali, Minister of Commerce and Transport, and Mr. Ahmed Reshid Abdile, Minister of Investments and Industry, along with senior officials from their respective institutions. During the discussions, both parties agreed to work on a twinning project between Djibouti and Jigjiga, marking a mutual desire to strengthen the ties between these two cities. Several areas of cooperation were discussed, including the economy, culture, and social affairs. The Mayor of Djibouti extended a warm welcome to his counterpart and his delegation, rolling out the red carpet to highlight the special importance of this courtesy and cooperation visit. In return, the Mayor of Jigjiga expressed his deep gratitude for the warm and fraternal reception provided by the Djiboutian authorities. The discussions were deemed promising and forward-looking. The two Mayors explored various avenues of collaboration aimed at establishing a win-win partnership for the benefit of the citizens of both cities.
