Press Release – Djibouti City Half Marathon

Today, the city of Djibouti experienced a memorable day with the first edition of the Half-Marathon, organized by His Excellency the Mayor of Djibouti City, Said Daoud Mohamed, in partnership with the Chinese international group TOUCHROAD. This race, which achieved great success, brought together a diverse group of participants: runners from the armed forces – the national army, coast guard, republican guard, national gendarmerie, national police, firefighters, and civil protection – as well as civilian runners from various neighborhoods of the city, of all ages and genders. The start and finish points were in Smart City, a modern and dynamic setting that embodies Djibouti's futuristic vision. Three courses were offered: 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 21 kilometers, giving everyone the opportunity to push their limits. Half-Marathon Results 10 kilometers – Men's Category 1. Barkad Abdirazak Said (Coast Guard) An Event Honoring National Success More than just a sporting competition, this Half-Marathon was a tribute to Djiboutian excellence on the international stage, celebrating the election of His Excellency Mahmoud Ali Youssouf as President of the African Union Commission. A historic achievement for Djibouti that cements the leadership and recognition of our country within the continent. Through this event, the city of Djibouti sought to celebrate this victory that honors the entire nation. Exemplary Organization and Total Commitment From the early hours of the morning, Smart City was transformed into a true sports village. The Mayor of Djibouti City gave the starting signal for the race at 7:00 AM, launching a morning full of performance and camaraderie. The event was also honored by the presence of the Prime Minister, along with the Ambassador of Djibouti to China, the State Secretary for Sports, the President of the Athletics Federation, and his team who provided their valuable expertise to ensure the smooth running of the competition. The Chinese Ambassador to Djibouti also spoke to highlight the importance of sports as a means of exchange and cooperation between nations. After the runners arrived, traditional dances and songs enlivened Smart City, celebrating the success of this unique sporting event. The Visionary Leadership of Djibouti's Mayor Through this initiative, Said Daoud Mohamed once again demonstrates his deep commitment to the development of Djibouti. In line with the directives set forth by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, the Mayor works daily to build a more dynamic, modern, and inclusive city. Since assuming office, he has continually infused new energy, multiplying ambitious projects to improve the quality of life for Djiboutians, invigorate the local economy, and make Djibouti a city that lives up to its potential. His commitment to sports, as evidenced by this Half-Marathon, is part of a broader desire to promote social cohesion, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and advocate for excellence in all its forms. In his speech, Said Daoud Mohamed strongly summarized this vision: "This Half-Marathon is not just a race; it is a showcase of the ambition and dynamism of our city. This first edition of the Djibouti Half-Marathon marks a turning point in the national sports landscape.
