Djibouti-Al-Qods: a twinning beyond the symbol

Date de l'événement : 2025-02-03

The gesture is strong, the symbol powerful. Following the 62nd session of the Executive Council of the Organization of Arab Cities, the city of Djibouti and Al-Qods have today formalized what was already evident: a partnership sealed by history, nourished by fraternity, and strengthened by political will. It was in the Moroccan city of Tangier that the Mayor of Djibouti, Said Daoud Mohamed, and the Governor of Al-Qods, Adnan Ghait, signed a twinning memorandum. This document, beyond mere formality, outlines a closer cooperation between the two capitals. Exchanges of municipal expertise, sharing experiences in urban governance, and developing joint projects: these are the levers on which the two cities rely to concretize their commitment. Indeed, the ceremony took place under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the Organization of Arab Cities, Abderrahman Al-Asfour, and in the presence of several figures from the Arab municipal world, including the mayors of Doha, Tripoli (Lebanon), and Tripoli (Libya). Djibouti's ambassador to Morocco, Mohamed Douhour Hersi, also attended, highlighting the diplomatic importance of this agreement. But this twinning goes far beyond the administrative sphere. It is part of a larger dynamic, that of unwavering solidarity between Djibouti and Palestine. Djibouti has always made its voice heard in favor of the Palestinian cause on all international platforms. This municipal alliance thus sets in stone a relationship that has never been closer politically and morally. At a time when Al-Qods remains at the heart of tensions and ambitions, the Djiboutian initiative takes on a particular resonance. It reminds us that the ties between Arab peoples are not just a matter of diplomatic statements but also of concrete solidarity, pragmatic cooperation, and mutual commitment. In the hushed corridors of the Tangier meeting, people spoke of a "pact of the heart." An alliance that, far from being a simple exchange of signatures, marks a common will: to bring fraternity to life beyond speeches and to give concrete meaning to cooperation between the cities of the Arab world.
