DJIBOUTI, January 19, 2025 (ADI) - In a gesture that illustrates the depth of Sino-Djiboutian relations, the municipality of Djibouti, under the leadership of its mayor, Said Daoud Mohamed, organized yesterday a ceremony marked by solidarity and humanity.
The event, organized in favor of the victims of the tragic Djebel fire that occurred on December 28, 2024, marked a new milestone in the collective effort to help the bereaved families. Chinese Ambassador Hu Bin, accompanied by a high-ranking military delegation from the Chinese base in Djibouti, handed over essential food, tents and water tanks, vital resources for these devastated homes.
Among the personalities present were deputies, representatives of civil society, as well as military personnel, all united in a common spirit. The Chinese contribution, through the military base, is part of a framework of decentralized cooperation that takes on its full meaning in the face of the emergency.
In his speech, Ambassador Hu Bin referred to this gesture as an expression of “unwavering friendship” and sincere solidarity between the two nations. “By responding to the Mayor’s call, we are further consolidating our cooperation and demonstrating our closeness to the Djiboutian people,” he said. For his part, Mayor Said Daoud Mohamed welcomed this outpouring of generosity and highlighted the close ties between Djibouti and China, the fruit of a shared vision carried by their respective leaders, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and Xi Jinping.
The mayor also expressed hope that this aid could be extended to the reconstruction of the Djebel district, ravaged by the flames. In a context where social cohesion is more essential than ever, the mayor recalled the values of solidarity that form the DNA of the Djiboutian nation. Quoting the President of the Republic, he reaffirmed that solidarity is the foundation of our national unity. “We must, at all times, be there for each other,” he said.
As the month of Ramadan approaches, the disaster support committee, through its coordinator, expressed its gratitude to the mayor for his unwavering commitment. This episode of Sino-Djiboutian solidarity is a powerful reminder that in the face of adversity, the union of hearts and actions remains the most precious weapon.
