Prime Minister alongside Djebel victims, promise of rehousing and rehabilitation

DJIBOUTI, January 4, 2025 (ADI) – Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed visited the victims of the devastating fire that ravaged the Djebel neighborhood on the night of Friday to Saturday this Saturday morning. Nearly 60 families were affected and at least 40 homes were reduced to ashes in this tragedy that left behind deep scars.
Welcomed on site by local leaders and members of the disaster support committee, the Prime Minister expressed, on behalf of the President of the Republic, the government and in his own name, his compassion and solidarity with the affected families. After inspecting the site to assess the extent of the damage, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed spoke with victims, marked by the horror of the previous night.
Trapped by the flames, we had no way out. It is only by the grace of God that we are alive,” confided, her eyes filled with tears, Safia Hogsadéh, a survivor and mother of three children. Faced with the tangle of homes, identified by the emergency services as an aggravating factor, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to speed up the implementation of the urban restructuring program for the neighborhood.
This project, according to him, aims to provide each household with a decent home and to avoid the repetition of such tragedies. The Prime Minister also praised the actions carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Solidarity, as well as the surge of citizen generosity coordinated by the mayor of the capital, Said Daoud Mohamed.
He particularly highlighted the role of the sub-prefect of the 3rd district, Haybe Hared Gadid, in coordinating the cleaning operations, made possible thanks to the exemplary mobilization of the inhabitants of Djebel.
Comforted by this unexpected visit, the disaster-stricken families expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister, who, by his presence, strengthened their hope for better days. "This solidarity gives us the strength to rebuild," said one of the representatives of the disaster victims' committee.
