Under the chairmanship of Mr. Said Daoud Mohamed, Mayor of Djibouti City and President of the City Council, an extraordinary session was held this morning, opening a new chapter for the capital.
The Council adopted, for the first time, a provisional budget for 2025, thus marking a crucial step towards the financial and administrative autonomy of the town hall. In his opening speech, Mr. Said Daoud Mohamed
highlighted the importance of this session: “Holding each Council is a new experience for us, a new challenge, a step further towards progress […], in search of a better improvement of the daily life of our dear town hall of Djibouti-ville for a sustainable, inclusive and harmonious development.
The adoption of the provisional budget was unanimously hailed as a "historic" step forward, allowing Djibouti City to manage its own resources and ensure more autonomous local governance.
This budget becomes the basis for a profound transformation, paving the way for local initiatives better adapted to the needs of the population.
“The adoption of this budget is not just a formality, it is the basis of a new autonomy that will allow us to write the future of our city with our own means,” declared the mayor during his speech.
Furthermore, the Council took advantage of this session to validate the internal regulations of the municipality, thus consolidating the bases of a more rigorous and efficient administration.
This regulation aims to regulate the activities of the city hall while ensuring increased transparency in its management. In closing the session, Mr. Said Daoud called for unity and commitment from the members of the Council to support this dynamic of change: "This progress is fully in line with the development vision of our capital." In perspective, the potential repercussions of the adoption of the first provisional budget of Djibouti-ville for 2025 are significant and promising.
By providing the municipality with an autonomous financial framework, this development paves the way for better planning of local projects, more efficient management of resources and an increased capacity to respond to the specific needs of citizens.
It will also strengthen transparency and accountability in public management, potentially attracting partnerships with investors and donors. On the social level, this autonomy could translate into concrete improvements in infrastructure, public services and community initiatives, thus contributing to sustainable and inclusive urban development.
Finally, this decisive step for Djibouti City marks a renewed ambition for its future, with a city hall that aspires to play a central role in the sustainable and inclusive development of the country. The adoption of this first provisional budget represents both a promise and a bet on the future.
It is now up to Djibouti City to transform this promise into reality, by responding to the expectations of its citizens.
