Last night, around thirty homes were reduced to ashes, plunging around fifty families into disarray. This tragedy, which occurred in a historic district, highlights the social and humanitarian challenges facing local authorities. In the early hours of the morning, the Mayor of the city went to the scene of the disaster, accompanied by the deputy Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed Abdo, the Sub-Prefect Mr. Haybe Hared Gadid, and Mr. Daha, representative of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Solidarity. This trip, marked by concrete gestures of solidarity, allowed the distribution of basic necessities to disaster victims. In his speech, the First Mayor did not mince his words, describing this fire as a "catastrophe" and a "tragedy" with serious consequences for these vulnerable families now without a roof over their heads or possessions. Strong recognition was expressed to the director of the Ambouli 1 school, who opened the doors of her establishment to temporarily accommodate the victims. The Firefighters, the police force of the 3rd arrondissement and the agents of the Ministry of Social Affairs were also praised for their mobilization. But beyond words, the Mayor launched a vibrant appeal for national solidarity. "We must, together, support these families who have lost everything. Everyone, at their level, can contribute," he urged, inviting all Djiboutians to respond to this surge of humanity. As solidarity is organized, a collective reflection on urban resilience is essential. For these families, the road to reconstruction has only just begun.
