Djibouti, 26 November 2025 – The Mayor of the capital, Mr. Cheikh Saïd Cheikh Daoud Al Musgagui, took part late this morning in an online working meeting of the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities (OICC), held by videoconference with his fellow mayors.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the member cities proceeded to elect the new Secretary-General of the Organization. At the end of the vote – in which the Mayor of Djibouti City actively participated – Mr. Badr Wael Badr Al-Ajil Al-Askar was unanimously elected as the new Secretary-General of the OICC.
The Mayor of Djibouti City warmly welcomed this unanimous vote, which reflects the confidence of the member capitals and cities in Mr. Al-Ajil Al-Askar’s leadership and vision. He expressed the readiness of Djibouti City to work closely with the new Secretary-General to further strengthen technical cooperation, the exchange of best practices and the promotion of sustainable urban development across Islamic capitals and cities.
